Champions of Health Nominations Open

From 12:00AM to 11:59PM

The Champions of Health awards recognize those who make a difference in the health of Oklahomans. Winners in select categories will receive $5,000 for their organization or program, and will be considered for the highest honor, the Dr. Rodney Huey Memorial Champion of Oklahoma Health award along with a $15,000 contribution. Winners will be announced at the 2015 Champions of Health Gala in September. To nominate, go to championsofhealth.org. All nominations must be submitted by Thursday, May 28 and there is no cost to enter.

Be Smart-Don’t Start Anti-Tobacco Day

From 9:00AM to 6:00PM

The first 500 guests at the museum will receive free admission courtesy of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. This anti-tobacco event will teach kids about the dangers of tobacco use and encourage them to make healthy life choices. Blaze the Braggin’ Blue Dragon, the BCBSOK mascot, and his buddy Spaghetti Eddie, a local musician popular among kids and families, are excited to meet Science Museum Oklahoma guests on May 2. Spaghetti Eddie will debut a special song about the importance of being tobacco free.

Baseball History at the Enid Public Library

Baseball historian Phil Dixon will speak on the Kansas City Monarchs at 2:00 on Saturday, May 2nd at the Enid Public Library. The Monarchs were part of the Negro League and won the Negro League World Series in 1924 and 1942. Dixon has written several books on Negro League baseball and is a co-founder of the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Mo. He is on a 90-city tour presenting “Monarchs in Our Hometown,” which tells the story of the 1924 championship team. Dixon will also discuss the role Enid and Phillips played in a historical 1930 game. Dixon said his goal is to educate people about the goodwill the league and its players generated. “It’s a labor of love,” Dixon said. “I believe audiences feel my passion, dedication and commitment to the history I convey.” This program is offered free of charge. The Enid Public Library is located at 120 W. Maine Ave., Enid OK.
